Tensions were running high in the Abraham Kriel Children’s Home office on Friday ahead of not only the Springboks’ opening Rugby World Cup fixture against the All Blacks, but also the launch of a lucrative in-house competition.
There was even an impromptu entrance in honour of France’s Roosters when childcare worker Suzette Jeffries arrived in true cock-a-doodle-doo style. It’s definitely not a secret who she’s supporting.
Each staff member picked a team out a hat who they will now support for the remainder of the tournament. There were a few shrieks of delight as well as some groans but like everyone knows, upsets happen and sometimes pedigree on paper means absolutely nothing.
Perhaps the most thrilled was transport co-ordinator Johan Yzelle who got the Springboks. Not too far behind was principal Christie Saayman who drew defending champions New Zealand. It’s safe to say they won’t be sitting around the same braai when the two giants clash tomorrow.

With R1000 up for grabs, plenty of banter is guaranteed during the next few weeks as teams battle it out for World Cup glory.
We’d love to know who your money is on so leave a comment and tell us who!
