In today’s fast-paced world it’s imperative to keep up with all the trends which develop at astounding rates right before our eyes.

And it’s no different in the workplace where employers are encouraged to keep their employees on their toes in the form of training and conferences.

It’s been an exciting few weeks at Abraham Kriel with a number of departments enjoying their training sessions away from the office.

Our new marketing department is going from strength to strength with the introduction of Abraham Kriel’s very own communications and design duo, Zeldri Nel and Tammy Patterson. In an effort to stay informed and updated, Zeldri and Tammy accompanied by Head of Marketing Christie Saayman, enrolled for the once-monthly ‘Marketing & Fundraising’ training course over a six-month period.

The rather intense sessions, hosted by Annelise de Jager who has years of experience having successfully launched ‘Tekkie Tax’ in South Africa, have provided much invaluable insight into the world of marketing and fundraising for NPOs and the trio often leave the sessions feeling refreshed and ready to apply their newfound knowledge in everyday situations.


Abraham Kriel was well represented at the NACCW 22nd Biennial & 4th CYC-Net world conference earlier this month.

The NACCW focuses to secure healthy child and youth development and improved standards of care to vulnerable children.

Social worker Lezandre Thompson shared her thoughts on the three-day event which brought hundreds of people sharing the same dream together.

‘It was lovely to see so many passionate social service professionals gathering with one common goal – to grow and develop into the best child and youth care worker possible’, said Thompson.

Over the course of the three days the group, consisting of four childcare workers as well as Thompson, were mentored by international professionals on skills development, consultancy and mentoring, professionalizing the field, membership, developing and replicating models, knowledge development and dissemination and finally international liaison and advocacy.

Maryna Engelbrecht, who recently joined the team, couldn’t hide her enthusiasm.

‘It was a wonderful learning experience for all of us and certainly one we’ll never forget. We trust that the knowledge and skills gained will enable our workers to render even better overall services for our children’.
